Irrigation System Questions
Why is my irrigation system coming on the wrong time of day?
Check the time and day on the controller, it may need to be changed.
Why is my controller screen blank?
Check to make sure there is power to the receptacle. If it is tied into a GFI receptacle make sure to hit the reset button on the receptacle that the controller is plugged into.
My sprinklers won't stop running even if I turn off my controller
You will need to physically shut off the supply of water to the irrigation system. The easiest place to do this is at your backflow device. There are two straight handles on your backflow that run parallel to the piping of the device. You will need to turn at least one of these handles a quarter turn so it is now perpendicular to the piping. The most common cause for this is a failed valve.
Why is my irrigation system running during a rain shower when I have a Rain Sensor installed?
The Rain Sensor isn’t designed to cut off during ANY amount of rain, but rather it is designed to activate AFTER SUFFICIENT rain has fallen. Normal setting usually detect a nominal rainfall of 1/4″ (other amounts can be set if you wish). After the Sensor (the receptacle part of the unit which is installed outside to collect rain water) dries out, the controller will resume its normal watering schedule and the Sensor Status Indicator will turn off. Dry out rates for the rain sensor vary dependent on ambient conditions such as temperature, sun exposure, humidity and wind – the same conditions your soil experiences.
What is Citywide Irrigation's policy on rain (or other inclement weather) days?
Our technicians can work effectively in light rain (as long as it’s safe), but if the ground gets too saturated or it’s raining too hard they will not be able to detect leaks or other relevant issues. If there is snow on the ground, or the temperature is below freezing they will be unable to work for obvious reasons. In these cases it will become necessary to reschedule. We usually make the decision whether or not to work the morning of the appointment and send out an email with a new date.
